We all love a bargain, us included. But did you know that it’s not just photo booths we supply at iBooths, we are part of a bigger events company and we are lucky enough to supply some quality products to our clients events. However there are some times, on occasions we do see some sights. With anything in any service industry you will get what you pay for and that saying is absolutely true in any sector. If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is and proceed with caution should be remembered. We know that everyone has a budget and even without going to extremes, those budgets can quickly spiral out of control and therefore needing to justify costs and cut them where necessary and appropriate. Our philosophy here at iBooths is to help our clients and prospective clients alike, even if you don’t book with us, hopefully you’ll have a better idea of what to look for and questions to ask after reading this blog page. This page isn’t about how great we are or how you need to book us. The point of this page is to help you get the most of your money and importantly value for money. After all, if you’re investing in a photo booth, you want people to use it! There are many photo booth companies out there and can be a bit of a minefield at times, before you know it you have the mindset that “all photo booths are the same” and offer “the same service” Both of those statements are not true and here’s a few examples. Magic mirrors are one of the most popular photo booths at the moment. A mirror is a mirror. Except when it’s not. We use special glass on our magic mirrors which are expensive, heavy but look like an actual mirror. Everything including the camera is hidden behind the glass so you can’t see it. It’s magic. Some cheaper alternatives to our magic mirror are not glass but cheaper acrylic. At first glance they may look the same but on closer inspection and the results of user experience and the photos are very much different. Some don’t even hide the camera inside the mirror and have a hole or the camera is placed at the top of the mirror as you’ll see with the example below. The first photo is NOT our mirror. The “glass” is actually acrylic which gives a weird reflection as you can see in the reflection, like a funny mirror at fair ground attractions. The camera is poking out of the glass, a big studio flash and lighting box to the side all mounted on stands. Whilst the latter two are our magic mirrors, real glass, hidden camera and technology which are fully touch screen and can even sign your name on the screen. Looks so much more inviting whist the difference in price between us and the other one - £50! for what was, as described to us as “the same thing”. We don’t know how many people used it, but we do know that they couldn’t have had the “same experience” that’s for sure.

Cheap Photo Booths

But it’s still a saving…..

Of course it is. But here’s the thing. You’ve invested in a photo booth for your event. Whatever your event may be, you want people to enjoy themselves and use the entertainment that you’ve provided for them. If it’s not fun then they won’t use it! Why would they want to? Our magic mirrors are fully featured. We have loads of videos showing what our mirrors can do so I wont list them all. But our mirrors take lots of different styles of photos so your guests will actually want to come back again and again to use and experience all that the mirror has to offer. If nobody uses the photo booth what’s the point in spending money on it? You want people to use it so that you have at the end of your event lots of stunningly vibrant images as a memory that you’ll want to cherish forever. Fun for your guests, and photo’s for you. All of our booths come with a helpful friendly attendant ready to help and assist your guests making the most from the mirror or booth experience. Showing them all the options and features to make the most of their visit before queuing again and again for more! Props are equally important, it’s part of the photo booth tradition to put on silly hats and glasses, that’s why we provide premium props. High quality hats, glasses, signs, masks etc. to add that extra sparkle to your event. The laughs coming from the photo booth never stops. However believe it or not, not every company provides the same level of fun premium props as we do. Why? Because they are expensive. There will be breakages and if they are busy undercutting the competition they cannot justify or have the budget to replace premium props. Take this example for instance, we took this photo at an event which consists of 1 hat and a few paper props on sticks. I don’t think people will be too excited and fight over these props, or offer too much in the laughter department complete with a crumpled backdrop.
Our photographer is supplying our photo booth for us
Photographers supplying the photo booth seems a really good idea doesn’t it. They are already there anyway and have a camera so why not? We’ve seen every kind of example of this and whist a couple and I really do mean a couple execute this really well whist the majority are just awful. Now let me explain this. Photographers are great at what they do, they can take amazing photos and that’s exactly what you’re looking for in wedding and event photos. The lighting has to be perfect the subjects in the right position, facing this way, that way, do this and do that. It’s like a having a professional photo studio at your event. A professional studio at your event, now that sounds great right? Er, no. Here’s why. People want to just have fun, they want the experience of a photo booth no matter if it’s a mirror, open booth or enclosed booth they are all the same. People want to do it themselves. Pick up some silly props, make funny poses, touch the screen and follow the instructions. Even the countdown adds to the tension and excitement of a photo booth. Now take that away and add your photographer with their camera ready and posed to take some photos of your guests. They won’t have the “booth experience” as your photographer will be standing there telling people to smile, get ready for another, say cheese all that. But if you need to tell people to smile then it’s not fun and the smiles will not be natural. Our photo booths are fully automatic, the tension, anticipation and excitements builds up from the moment they queue for the booth and touch the screen. Franticly changing and putting on hats, masks etc the laughter is genuine and fun. Nobody is standing there waiting for guests to be ready. Telling them how to pose, all this is supposed to be fun and experiential and that’s what we offer. Often times photographers who offer the “photo booth” doesn’t print the photos there and then so there’s no prints for your guests to take away! So there’s very little incentives for your guests to use it, which is a real shame. We’ve seen this many times over. Where the photographer offers a booth service and very few people actually use it because the fun aspect is taken away. Not intentionally but it’s true. It’s just not the same.
Then there are some photographers who do offer a automatic photo booth service. Introducing the iPad on a pole booth. Yes that’s exactly what it is. A normal iPad on a stick. There are lots of software options for iPads around and we’ve used them all. The best one is as you’d imagine costly to use so it’s unlikely that a photographer will want to provide it for free or very little. Again, whist iPad booths can print photos, if you’ve been provided this at a discounted fee or as a free add-on, expect it not to print and get very little use. Most of these we’ve seen are provided as a free add-on from DJ’s and photographers and usually all look similar to this. The picture quality is from the front camera from an iPad, so can be blurry on some photos and not as sharp and vibrant as a DSLR camera used in most other booths. For transparency we offer an iPad booth too, but isn’t presented like this or use cheap or free software so there’s lots of digital experiences to offer, whist providing instant prints for your guests to take away.
Here’s a photos and video of our iPad booth

Choosing a photo booth

The point of this blog page is to show you what you could end up with compared to what you should end up with. A photo booth should be presentable, interactive and fun for all to enjoy. Take any one of those away then you may as well not bother with a photo booth as it won’t get used as much as it should and will ultimately be poor value for money. As well as the above, what is also important is the photo quality. After all that’s what you want! good quality photos to cherish for a lifetime of memories. As we’ve mentioned above, iPads are limited in the quality they provide, although the newer iPads provide better images than older ones they are still limited. However it’s not just iPads, some photo booths use webcams too! There’s no right or wrong here, there are a number of reasons why a webcam would be used. Mainly for allowing special effects in the photo booth software however not usually used as the main camera. It’s important to find out from your photo booth supplier what equipment they use especially cameras. DSLR cameras usually provide the best professional results. We use Canon D60 cameras in our booths and magic mirrors.

Other photo booths we’ve come across

no really we have….

Here’s some photos of booths (i guess) that we’ve seen at events whist installing and collecting other equipment we provide. We’re showing this because although things may seem to be the same, they are very clearly are not. Some we’ve seen are pretty good but is an accident waiting to happen with cables trailing whist others just leave our jaws open asking ourselves “what’s that?” Of course you’ll always find cheaper…. There’s lots of cheap software out there so add a camera, web-cam, go pro or iPad and here’s what you get for your money.

Did you know that it’s not just photo booths we supply at iBooths, we are part of a bigger events company and we are lucky enough to supply some quality products to our clients events. However there are some times, on occasions we do see some sights. Our clients, who have paid a small fortune running in to thousands for their event put their faith and trust in to some suppliers who advertise premium products but unfortunately don’t receive the same standard as they were led to believe. Everyone wants a bargain of course they do! However when it comes to services you cannot compare like for like. Heinz beans are the same everywhere, you can shop around and save a few pence doing so knowing the quality will be exactly the same wherever you shop. This isn’t the same with services, every service if completely different. So a photo booth is a photo booth right? NO….. Whilst on our travels, we’ve seen some things, so here’s a gallery of what we’ve seen at events. Entertainment for your guests. Experience Photos for you and your guests (that’s why you want a photo booth right!)
Cheap Photo Booths - You’ll get what you pay for
A poor quality photo booth will 1 . Be under used. Your guests won’t use it 2 . May produce under or over exposed photos 3 . Waste your money using web-cams or poor quality cameras 4 . Create a talking point amongst your guests for the wrong reasons. All of the images were taken at actual events and clients paid good money for them. In fact the selfie booth as featured in the pic was never used all night. Guests were asking where the photo booth was and were directed to a go pro on a stick with paper props and an instruction manual. Someone had to press a button to take a picture! It was never used, so there weren’t any memorable pictures for the clients (this was at a wedding) to take away and cherish the moments forever. At iBooths, we deliver what we promise. Our booths look as good and our gallery. We generate queues as guests love our booths Guests come back again and again to take pictures Our booths use the highest grade professional camera for outstanding image quality Our booths are innovative with many features Instant postcard prints as standard (no silly strips here) User choice of colour / black & white or sepia photos Upload the photos to social media or text directly to mobiles Unlimited visits - come back as many times as you want to Unlimited prints - prints at every visit FREE guest book, we’ll print an additional copy to be placed in your guest book for free Uniformed attendant to help you make the most out of your experience FREE use of premium props - no paper on stick here, we use the best props that generate laughs If that’s not enough we also send you all of the images both full size and the template versions via secure download after your event.
